Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Sunday Style!

Ah, yes. Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars, a.k.a. Cons, Converse, Chuck Taylors or simply Chucks. Personally, I tend to call them Cons. I can't remember a time when I didn't own a pair. Did you know that the original Cons debuted in 1917? Almost 100 years later, they still never, ever go out of style. Cons are everywhere. (Just take a look at yesterday's blog post.) They're cheap, utilitarian, universally popular and yet somehow subversive. Most people can pull them off, but at the same time they're very punk rock. They go with everything -- even a formal wedding gown! My current pair is brown. What about you? What color are your Cons?

I've never worn Converse, though they are available here. I prefer hikers and dress shoes to sneakers or running shoes.

When I was younger, we called them bobos.
You would get laughed at and made fun of for wearing them. It told the other kids that you were poor and couldn't afford the "name brands".
The only ones that we saw back then were the high-top ones. Kids will be kids.
But as I got older, they became more acceptable. Now they are considered "chic" or "hip". The many things that show the generation gaps.

Interesting, Jerry! I've never heard them referred to as bobos, that's new to me! I remember having a pair of basic white ones when I was in grade school. They were considered neither stylish nor gauche, just sort of everyday utilitarian sneakers. By the time I was in high school, thanks to bands like the Ramones, Cons were considered edgy and cool.
