Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

The State Fair (Part 1)

Pat and I spent Sunday afternoon and evening at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo. We don't go to the fair all that often, so this was a lot of fun. As far as I'm concerned, if you like people-watching as much as I do, it's absolutely the best! But the real reason I like to go to the fair is for the insanely unhealthy food. Ha! Come on! I usually try to eat a healthy diet, but at the fair it's no holds barred. Eat it all! I started the day with funnel cake and ended with goopy nachos. (My arteries are now screaming for mercy. Let's just say I'll be eating a lot of soup in the next few days to atone for my sins.)

I took a lot of pictures while we were there -- way too many for one post, so I'll spread them out over the next few days. Enjoy!

Have you ever tried fried pickles? I have, and I didn't like them. I don't think I'd try them again.
This delicious funnel cake ended up in my belly about 30 seconds after I took this picture. Well, most of it anyway. I couldn't finish it and my cardiovascular system thanks me for that.
For my readers outside the U.S. who might not be familiar with funnel cake, this is how it's made: batter is poured (I assume the original means of pouring it must have been through a funnel) into a round form in boiling hot oil. In about 30 seconds it's crispy and browned. It's then covered in powdered sugar. Funnel cake is insanely delicious. And SUPER fattening.
These pies weren't for sale, they were judged in the baking competition. They all look so yummy!
This competitor won a blue ribbon for her gluten-free peanut butter cookies. They have every kind of food you can imagine in these competitions. Everything from gluten-free cookies to canned carrots to jams and jellies, pies and cakes... they even had a beef jerky competition. Someone gets to taste all of that for judging purposes. What a job!
Ah yes, corn dogs, Pat's favorite State Fair food. For those unfamiliar with this distinctly American delicacy, it's a hot dog on a stick, dipped in corn batter and deep fried. These are definitely not my cup of tea, but Pat loves them, especially slathered in catsup and mustard.
Pat ended the night with a giant bag of cotton candy. He looks very pleased with his purchase. It's way too sweet for me but he loves the stuff!
And for me, nachos to top it all off for the drive home. No, I did not eat all of this. But I sure tried!

I've never had a corn dog, though I've heard about them before. I can't recall the last time I had cotton candy.

Our MN State Fair closed on Labor Day and it is the first time I've missed it in years! Your photos are wonderful and make me want to jump on a plane to share it with you!
