Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

New York (Part 7)

The 22 story Flatiron Building, completed in 1902, is a Manhattan landmark. It was hard to get a good shot of it because we were there during rush hour and there were so many pedestrians. I did what I could! A couple of blocks away, the Hotel Chelsea has been home to many a famous or infamous poet, musician, writer, artist, and muse. Some of its more memorable past residents include Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen of Sex Pistols fame, Dylan Thomas, Patti Smith, Gore Vidal, Diego Rivera, Edie Sedgwick, Dennis Hopper, Bob Dylan, Madonna... the list goes on. You can see the names of all the notables HERE, if you're curious. The last time we were in NYC, about 15 years ago, Pat and I made it a point to go to the Chelsea, and it was a pretty cool experience just hang to out in the lobby for a bit. There was art everywhere and a funky vibe, which we loved. Alas, the Chelsea was sold fairly recently and is currently undergoing renovations, so this time we were only able to stand outside and take a picture. I hope the updates don't destroy the coolness of it all.

After the Flatiron Building and the Chelsea, we made our way to Central Park. Our first order of business was to take a picture of the Imagine mosaic at Strawberry Fields. It was a little challenging as there were so many people there with the same mission, all of them wielding selfie sticks and vying for a good angle (as compared to last time, when we almost had the place to ourselves), but we sat on a bench and waited patiently until a relatively people-free moment presented itself. As soon as I got my shot, we went for a little stroll through the park. It was nice!

Tomorrow I'll post a few more vacation images. I figure I have about two more days' worth to show you, then it'll be back to pictures of Colorado Springs.

The famous Hotel Chelsea is currently undergoing renovations.
The Dakota, where John Lennon and Yoko Ono lived at the time he was murdered. She still resides there.

We spotted a couple of these bright red birds in Central Park. This one was kind enough to pose for me. My research tells me it's a northern cardinal, something you definitely don't see in Colorado.
Another look at the Dakota. John Lennon was fatally shot on the sidewalk in front of this beautiful building on December 8, 1980.

The Dakota is very distinctive. Yes, that's a cardinal, the male. The female colours are less bright. They're common here in the countryside.
