The Leechpit
Located on Nevada and Dale (in the old service station formally occupied by Toons), the Leechpit is where you go to buy records, skateboards, vintage duds, and all the other paraphernalia craved by hipsters and their ilk. Since I'm a huge fan of vintage anything, I admit to having spent a few bucks there from time to time. I took this picture while on a senior portrait shoot a couple of weekends ago. It's a photogenic place.

Untitled
A small aircraft passed overhead while I was in the middle of a shoot for one of my corporate clients last Tuesday evening. I had to take a picture of it, of course ;^)
This is my first time participating in Skywatch Friday, and I can't promise that I will do it again, but I'll try and remember to! (This photo was just so perfect, and today just happens to be Friday, so...) To see more Skywatch Friday pictures, click HERE.

Mammatus clouds over Colorado Springs
On Tuesday afternoon I was taking a little break from my studio to get a quick bite to eat, and as I was driving I noticed these striking mammatus clouds forming to the east. I've never in my life seen mammatocumulus. It's quite a rare phenomenon. Luckily I had a camera with me and got a good shot of the dramatic sky. Very cool!

A spin in the old Falcon
I caught this carefree group cruising up Manitou Avenue in a perfect, early '60s Ford Falcon (I think it's a '63) on Sunday evening. Looks like fun!

Manitou Springs Town Clock detail
A close up of one of the fanciful dolphins, originally styled as fountains, that adorn the Wheeler Town Clock's base, with historic Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in the background.

The Manitou Springs Town Clock
Manitou's town clock, officially known as the Wheeler Town Clock, captured yesterday evening. I love its Belle Epoque styling, so feminine and beautiful.

I'm back to blogging!
Well it's been a little over two weeks since my surgery (see previous post), and though I'm not quite back to my old self yet, I feel good enough to resume my duties at Colorado Springs Daily Photo :^) I thought I'd kick it off with a photo I took the day before my surgery. This is Saint Mary's Cathedral in downtown Colorado Springs, captured in that gorgeous late afternoon light that I love so much.
It's good to be back!

A room with a view
What you're seeing is what I'm seeing right now: I'm flat on my back in the hospital. I had to have a little stomach surgery yesterday, so it will be a few days before I'm back on my feet and sufficiently recovered to go out and take pictures for the blog. Until then, don't forget about me, dear readers! I'll be back before you know it :^)

Twilight rainbow
On Monday night as I was driving to my book club get together, I could see the tail end of a vibrant rainbow in the failing light. My friend Connie hosted book club this month, and she lives in the neighborhood that was ravaged by the Waldo Canyon fire. All around her house, the trees, hillside and many other homes are reduced to skeletal ashes. It is breathtaking (in a bad way) to drive through there, and Monday was no different. But I managed to capture the rainbow at the end of her cul de sac just before it disappeared, and in a way it was hopeful.

Prickly pear
While I was on a senior portrait shoot the other day, I came across (or I should say I nearly stepped on!) this lovely prickly pear cactus, with purple fruit ready for the picking. Isn't it pretty?

Steele School
A detail of one of the many colorful murals at Steele Elementary School in the Old North End, a couple of blocks south of my studio. I like what this one has to say.

The Gildar Gallery
On Friday I drove to Denver to pick up a painting that I had purchased from the Gildar Gallery. As I was waiting for Adam, the gallery owner, to run my credit card, I saw how lovely and spare his space looks in the late day light. I stood still and snapped off three or four shots. This one is my favorite.
