Ha. Over the past week I progressively got worse instead of better, but I've been to the doctor and am now on a medication and rest protocol, so hopefully I will start feeling like myself again soon. All of this naturally means that I've not left the house in several days (other than going to Urgent Care), so I haven't taken any new pictures for you. Pat to the rescue! Not only has he been taking such good care of me while I'm feeling so poorly, he got some great snaps of the Saint Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday when he went downtown to pick up some breakfast for me and found himself right in the thick of things. Hooray for Pat! I feel like we should have a parade just for him! Love you, sweetie! Other parts of the city got even more than we did. It wasn't really a storm in the sense that the wind was blowing or even large amounts of precipitation at any given point. It was just a gentle snow that didn't let up for over a day. This is the most significant snowfall of not just this winter, but quite a few years, really. We rarely get this much all at one time, at least not here in the city. There's not much you can do about it other than hunker down at home and wait for it to pass.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwEwKlyIDfmCm3mawM4NrFaKnEZGyeeDgW4r9ZrhHJboQ8JaPNtisBlgsty_J5KvCmtdgFPuj-maj5XKAwKHt9YeNRMjr_2gdlA4bRQ9jdBCbk-6vtGYZyUN8XZg_iICQXxr1gJ9OGWYUiPZ7T0LtHz2Pp82n69iT9Rlg0KpkWjaHYexkj8ZRU3Wp5op0/s747/03152024-b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><img border="0" data-original-height="567" data-original-width="747" height="486" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwEwKlyIDfmCm3mawM4NrFaKnEZGyeeDgW4r9ZrhHJboQ8JaPNtisBlgsty_J5KvCmtdgFPuj-maj5XKAwKHt9YeNRMjr_2gdlA4bRQ9jdBCbk-6vtGYZyUN8XZg_iICQXxr1gJ9OGWYUiPZ7T0LtHz2Pp82n69iT9Rlg0KpkWjaHYexkj8ZRU3Wp5op0/w640-h486/03152024-b.jpg" width="640" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi20XFZqKsFfAX2h4xrMlv2G1l2swkU0e8APDN3LauejQJig1IfWQ92c7RbxNORyDo9YizrAfxzyWiHM6_i_KVADP8nCid9R8rrw3oaWOS6sAeVxpcZPjDJVf0ByEb68ehQQQTvidkfqr9CKeCqzbgtPZssy8ZzqDk-gjqeYdEOHWROdICjt6RddhI1tgk/s747/03152024-c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><img border="0" data-original-height="747" data-original-width="567" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi20XFZqKsFfAX2h4xrMlv2G1l2swkU0e8APDN3LauejQJig1IfWQ92c7RbxNORyDo9YizrAfxzyWiHM6_i_KVADP8nCid9R8rrw3oaWOS6sAeVxpcZPjDJVf0ByEb68ehQQQTvidkfqr9CKeCqzbgtPZssy8ZzqDk-gjqeYdEOHWROdICjt6RddhI1tgk/w486-h640/03152024-c.jpg" width="486" /></span></a></div>Tamerahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12446660497311936354noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7559382250559680726.post-30947847698237807482024-03-14T23:31:00.006-06:002024-03-15T00:38:36.792-06:00Burger Break<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkoZSU-Y5kXWcHamyGZYi7znnK-d-4AMto2ckX0qmTCP3uTf_-reK6BOSZQYJafNK9euT7-b1gYiw-52moUzPHVJFYs4ZPIAQdMHLedIaWDETb9PLODAs8Zm1oo1P52Rt-h50aAQdCV64ns1ofUggB31MBKUDxDr17m8qWMaQVQ_r5khCeuK_363nRYs0/s747/03142024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><img border="0" data-original-height="567" data-original-width="747" height="486" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkoZSU-Y5kXWcHamyGZYi7znnK-d-4AMto2ckX0qmTCP3uTf_-reK6BOSZQYJafNK9euT7-b1gYiw-52moUzPHVJFYs4ZPIAQdMHLedIaWDETb9PLODAs8Zm1oo1P52Rt-h50aAQdCV64ns1ofUggB31MBKUDxDr17m8qWMaQVQ_r5khCeuK_363nRYs0/w640-h486/03142024.jpg" width="640" /></span></a></div><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Last week we stopped into Cy's for lunch. Cy's is the real deal, a 1950s drive-in diner serving burgers, fries, shakes and the like. Not fancy schmancy burgers with bleu cheese and caramelized onions or whatever. Just <i>burgers</i>. I don't think their menu has changed since... ever, I guess! Pat had a burger (naturally) and I had a grilled cheese sandwich. So good! I especially love their french fries. Do you have an authentic drive-in diner left in your city? Here's the view last Sunday, when I took Frodo for a nice long walk in Monument Valley Park along with my friend Jennifer. It was a beautiful day and there were lots of people out and about walking their dogs, riding bikes, running, or just hanging out. Look at the mountain! What a gorgeous backdrop for any activity, right? As you may know, the place to apply for a passport is the US Post Office, but that doesn't mean it has to be the one around the corner from you. Why not drive up the pass and hit up a post office in a small mountain town? So that's exactly what we did today -- we headed to Divide, which is about 25 minutes west of us. We were a little early for our appointment so we drove around for a few minutes to kill time. I took this from the passenger seat while the sun made a brief appearance on an otherwise gloomy and damp day.</span></p>Tamerahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12446660497311936354noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7559382250559680726.post-334569063218215662024-03-06T20:39:00.002-07:002024-03-06T20:39:00.195-07:00Shiloh Chapel<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ1bqqsOmasP4yRiAApOILYVF1p2DQ5jvX0160P5CDWSwb3ui6rFo849mF7xj2adbcwYfFDW_Mv3mGNsrWGaaJbvamncdCgK8Sn-wytx0JGW8shEGyCcREke7-Zl0PctZtkvJGwD-pgAAM6kKuU6X1VlhCy9F5fVrPn2h1RNanu7pSCCDkV5rtBl2X-Gs/s747/03062024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><img border="0" data-original-height="567" data-original-width="747" height="486" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ1bqqsOmasP4yRiAApOILYVF1p2DQ5jvX0160P5CDWSwb3ui6rFo849mF7xj2adbcwYfFDW_Mv3mGNsrWGaaJbvamncdCgK8Sn-wytx0JGW8shEGyCcREke7-Zl0PctZtkvJGwD-pgAAM6kKuU6X1VlhCy9F5fVrPn2h1RNanu7pSCCDkV5rtBl2X-Gs/w640-h486/03062024.jpg" width="640" /></span></a></div><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">There is a lovely Art Déco church near my house called <a href="http://www.shilohchapel.org/" target="_blank">Shiloh Chapel</a>. It's quite small but I personally think it's one of the prettiest churches in our city. (You know how I feel about Art Déco!) The congregation takes great care of this little chapel. It's hard to get a good picture of it, because it sits on a very busy corner, and as you can see, there are large trees in front of it. The other day I just happened to be waiting at that intersection for a green light, and I just happened to be at exactly the right angle, and the light just happened to be quite lovely, and I just happened to have a camera with me. Bingo! Finally got a picture of it after all these years of living only blocks away. That means it's Theme Day for City Daily Photo bloggers, and this month the theme is <i>reflections in windows</i>. From the east, Pikes Peak is actually quite symmetrical, but seen in reverse it's still a little... off.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">For more reflections in windows by CDP bloggers all over the world, click <a href="https://citydailyphoto.org/2024/02/23/city-daily-photo-march-theme-reflections-in-windows/" target="_blank">HERE</a>. A couple of weeks ago, a man -- after first assaulting his wife, backing his vehicle into a neighbor's car, attempting to break into another neighbor's house, then getting getting shot by that neighbor (!!!) -- <a href="https://krdo.com/news/2024/02/11/assault-suspect-shot-before-crashing-into-downtown-colorado-springs-businesses/" target="_blank">crashed his car into a building downtown</a>. Apparently he was driving at a very high rate of speed; one estimate was that he was going 100 miles per hour, though that seems like a bit of an exaggeration to me. Anyway, he pretty much destroyed the Skirted Heifer, which is a popular restaurant on Tejon and Bijou. Thankfully this happened in the wee hours of the morning, so despite all the damage he did to the building, vehicles on the street, his own car, and himself, the guy at least managed to avoid flattening any humans.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">The poor Skirted Heifer! I don't eat there since I'm a vegetarian, but I have heard that their burgers are outrageously good, and the place is always busy. I guess it's going to be a while before they can get it all repaired and back to service again. A Go Fund Me has been set up for their employees, who are obviously not able to work right now.
