The DPL

I know I said yesterday that I'd get back to blogging pictures of Colorado Springs today, but I forgot that I had one more picture from last week's Denver sojourn to show you! This is the Denver Public Library on Broadway and 13th, designed by Michael Graves. The original building was opened in 1955 (replacing a nearby Carnegie building from the early 1900s), and the modern Michael Graves wing that you see here was opened in 1995. I think it's held up well, design-wise. It doesn't look dated. By the 20 year mark, things usually look more than a little gauche. Think of 1995 fashion trends (HERE and HERE are some visual cues if you need some). JNCO, anyone? Yeah not so much! But this building is still eye catching and interesting. I'm sure it's had its critics, but I'm not one of them.
