Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

An interesting architectural detail

I was at the Briarhurst Manor on a quick business errand the other day and I noticed an unusual architectural detail that I've somehow missed before, despite having shot dozens of weddings and events at this grand old mansion: a satyr! As you can see, he's basically an ornamental gutter pipe. The mansion was built in 1876 in the Tudor Revival style, burned down in 1886, and rebuilt in 1887. I'm unclear as to whether the satyr was an original detail of the building, or added when it was rebuilt after the fire. At any rate, the Briarhurst is said to be haunted (though I've yet to experience anything "paranormal" there), so I think this satyr's slightly creepy countenance fits in quite well.

From the FB image, I wondered if some wag had shoved a rolled newspapr in its mouth. Excellent find.

Seeing it so close it makes for a funny photo.

It does have a peculiar feel to its presence there.

It is a little intimidating. I'll bet it looks funny when water is pouring out of the gutter pipe!

Lois, yeah that's probably hilarious! I'll have to try and get a picture of that sometime, ha ha!
