Today's photo was taken by my friend Kathryn, who was downtown yesterday afternoon and noticed an elephant in Acacia Park! Actually, an elephant is kind of hard to miss, so I guess it's a bit of an understatement when I say she "noticed" it. When Kathryn posted the photo to Facebook, of course I asked her if I could put it on the blog. It's not every day you see such a thing! Both Kathryn and I are completely stumped as to what this pachyderm was doing in the park, so if any of my local readers have the answer, by all means comment on this post and enlighten us all. Thanks for the photo, Kathryn, and have a great weekend everyone!
Edit: I have the answer! Apparently the elephant, Page, was celebrating her birthday! Thirty-one years old! She's part of the Colorado Renaissance Festival, which takes place on weekends all summer in Larkspur, to the north of us between Monument and Castle Rock. They had a little party for her in the park. Apparently they celebrate Page's birthday every year in Acacia Park, and have been for two decades. (How have I missed this?!?!?) You can read more about it and see some video HERE.

That's something you don't see every day!
I saw her my first summer here and couldn't believe my eyes! Still such a vivid memory! Kelly
