Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

November 2017 Theme Day: Rock and Roll

It's the first of the month, Theme Day for City Daily Photo bloggers! I didn't participate last month because I didn't have a photo prepared, but I had tons of possible images for today's theme: rock and roll. It was hard to narrow it down to just these!

You could call Pat and me rock and roll tourists. We like to structure vacations and road trips around two things: Muffler Men and music. Last year we took an epic road trip to Memphis (Graceland, Sun Record Co., the Staxx Museum, the Gibson Guitar Factory), Nashville (Music Row, the Cash Museum, the Ryman Auditorium, the Country Music Hall of Fame, Third Man Records, Gruhn Guitars), Cleveland (the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), and finally tiny Fairmount, Indiana to visit James Dean's grave. It was a great adventure and we had a blast! (In fact, I took so many pictures that I still have not dealt with culling and processing them. The photos in today's post are cell phone snaps, not from my real camera.) But we've had many other rock and roll trips too, and the list of things we have yet to see is long -- I'd like to go to the Cavern in Liverpool and the (former) Hacienda in Manchester some day, for instance.

The above photo was taken in Cleveland, near the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The one below was taken inside the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Yes, that's David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust costume. My bottom jaw hit the floor when I saw it. If you're a music fan and you've never been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, go! The collection is mind boggling! There is so, soooooooooooo much more than David Bowie's costume. It will blow your mind. You'll want to spend at least an entire day there, if not two. Absolutely fascinating stuff.

Some of the other rock and roll sites we've seen over the last many years:

  • CBGB (standing on the stage there gave me chills) and the Hotel Chelsea in New York City
  • Abbey Road, the Apple Records Building, the 100 Club, and the former site of the Marquee Club in London
  • Buddy Holly's grave in Lubbock, TX
  • The Whisky a GoGo and Capitol Records in Hollywood, CA
  • The former site of the Church in Hermosa Beach, CA
  • Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma
I'm sure I missed a few. We always try to find some kind of rock and roll site to visit when we travel! For more takes on this month's theme, visit the CDP portal HERE. And rock on!

Just for fun, here's a decade old photo of Pat and me crossing Abbey Road, because that's what you do when you're in London. 😊

P.S. You've been Rick rolled 😁

Wow. I am impressed. A side of you I didn't know about.

Even though I lived and worked in Columbus for six years, I never made it up to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Shame! A friend of mine (the current CEO of the company I used to work for) is on the board. As a sidelight, he played drums at charitable events in a band made up of senior executives of my old company. I just went and danced.

Wonderful Theme Day post. Your Abbey Road crossing photo turned out way better than mine did, which is why I didn't post it!
