Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Sunday Style!

Coincidentally, this entry goes hand in hand with the vintage cars I've been posting about the last few days. I went shopping yesterday for a crinoline petticoat. I love 1950s style and I especially love sewing vintage styled dresses for myself. Sometimes I even sew from actual old patterns from that era. I'm just now finishing with an extra pretty dress, so I hit up one of my favorite stores, Bang Bang, for a crinoline to go under it. I send my pinup clients to this store all the time! I think it must be a well kept local secret, but everyone needs to know that for pinup clothes in Colorado Springs, Bang Bang is the place to go! Mostly they stock fashions that appeal to people with modern tastes (and it's all very cool stuff!), but if you wander a little farther to the back of the store, they have all kinds of cute retro dresses. I love this store! I know that you can buy these sorts of things online too, but I've found that rockabilly clothes can tend to look disappointingly cheap and ill fitting when you buy from those sites; it always helps to be able to try on a dress and see if it really fits and flatters you. And these aren't cheaply made dresses. I've bought a couple of retro dresses at Bang Bang and they are extremely well constructed, flattering, and made of very nice fabric. (Just look at the one in the photo above. It has a super cute neckline with a whip stitched accent, and the fabric has a Viva Las Vegas theme -- adorable!) Also, it bears repeating that spending your money at locally owned businesses is just so much better all around!
This dress has a cute "hairdresser" themed fabric. I love the red wiggle dress next to it, too!

We called those crinolines underneath skirts "petticoats." Ah geez. I am glad you are enjoying that era. I myself was VERY glad to see hippiedom arrive and loose clothes and no bras. Late '50's for the body were girt to the gills.

Judith, I agree -- not the most comfortable! Sometimes I suffer for fashion ;)
