I don't know how many times I've driven past Steamboat Rock in my life. A million or two, probably. But I never noticed these little things about it until the other day: there are steps leading to the top of it and sign prohibiting using them. I've seen many old pictures of Steamboat Rock with people standing on top of it (the picture that comes to mind most is black and white, and the people are dressed in Victorian clothing). It never occurred to me to ask how they got up there! Obviously these steps have been there for generations, and I'm just oblivious.
Another thing I never noticed was this crevice on the west side of the rock. It looks like someone placed stones in it.

Well, the steps do blend in with the stratigraphy of the rock...but the little stones in the crack certainly do not. Someone had some time on their hands. ...but there are worse things to spend tine on I suppose.
I suppose at some point the lawyers got involved.
