Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. Untitled

A moment captured on August 18t at the Colorado Springs Utilities xeriscape demonsration garden up on the mesa. Really I was just trying to take a picture of this interesting plant, then a bee came along and made it even more interesting.

Can't help myself....that's a yellow jacket and not a bee. They sting too, if you bother them. They're not major pollinators, but they do a bit....

@JudithK you may be right. There are many kinds of bees, and most of them don't look like cute bumblebees or honeybees. A lot of them are actually solitary and not part of a hive, so to speak, and a lot of them resemble wasps. But then again we have our share of wasps here and we have a very persistent hive in our backyard as a matter of fact. They are annoying but at the same time they also do a decent job of pollinating, so even though Pat wants to kill them all, I tend to leave them alone. So perhaps this is a wasp rather than a bee.
