A few more photos from the annual garden tour. The theme this year was urban farms, and we were pleasantly surprised/mildly shocked to see that some of these homes, especially the ones in the Briargate neighborhood, had some serious food growing going on. Briargate takes up a sizeable chunk of the north side, and it's really the epitome of bland, generic surburbia (with apologies to those that live there -- it's just not my cup of tea). The houses are large and close together, yet the gardens we saw maximized every square inch of space to grow crops and even house small livestock. There was one family that had five goats, a pig, and a whole bunch of chickens! And you would never have known it from looking at the front of their house, which was just another big beige Briargate fortress. The backyard was a different story altogether. Bravo! That said, all of these homes also had gorgeous ornamental gardens too, which is what I'm featuring on the blog since none of the vegetable gardens were particularly photogenic. More pictures tomorrow.
