One natural resource that Colorado has plenty of is wind! Just the other day, high velocity winds whipped a small grass fire into a raging inferno near Boulder, burning over 3,000 acres. Thousands of people were forced to temporarily evacuate and at least four homes were damaged or destroyed (FYI homes in Boulder, especially in the outlying areas, can carry million dollar price tags). And this was in the middle of winter -- you can imagine how bad the fires can be in the summer!
Colorado Springs is not exempt. We frequently get extremely windy days here, like the day before yesterday. I say make lemonade out of lemons. This very cool mobile sculpture sits on Tejon Street right next to what used to be Colorado Springs Music (and is now a wine store I think). Just another great example of our prolific public art, spinning in the wind.

We don't often have winds like you have but we have some strong winds in the winter time and they make it seem a lot colder than it really is.

Too bad I don't still live in Western Kansas. You could send me messages by just throwing a postcard up into the air! The wind really roars down the front range and to the east, and it blows HARD in Western Kansas almost every single day. The trees grow sideways - you've probably seen that before.
I like that pinwheel sculpture — fun! I wonder if personal wind generators are possible there. That's awful news about the fire though.

I'm glad your mom saw it. I got confused by your use of 'Malate Cathedral' — there's none such so it was one or the other. You might want to visit Anthony's Metro Manila CDPB. He has a shot of the church's interior which he posted yesterday. That one's sure to bring back memories for your mom — it's from the aisle looking towards the altar!
