Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Conway's Red Top

Where to go in Colorado Springs for the largest burger you've ever eaten? Conway's Red Top! A Springs institution for generations, Red Top has been owned and operated by the Conway family for nearly half a century (Norb Conway started out as a busboy there and eventually bought the company in 1961). When my family first moved here in 1979, one of the first restaurants we ate at was Red Top. Thirty years later I'm still a regular -- there's one just a few blocks from my house and we drop in there frequently. I can never eat an entire burger though. I have to order the half size. This photo is Pat's dinner a couple of nights ago. That's a big burger!

Red Top has five locations in Colorado Springs. The one near my house played host to presidential candidate John McCain last year, as well as retired Bronco quarterback John Elway. Plenty of people here like Senator McCain I'm sure, but John Elway! My gosh! He's a veritable superhero in these parts! And he dropped in for a burger at Red Top -- how cool is that!

Now that is a big burger! I could probably eat three meals off of that! It looks good.

Wow - you used an ultra-wide angle lenses for that shot, right? :)

It would take a mouth the size of John Elway's to eat that big ol' burger! LOL

I wonder if this is the same hamburger place we ate at in 1954-1955 when I was in the service at Fort Carson. The burger looks the same. The wife and I would order one burger and fries and cokes for around $1.50. It was on South Nevada on the right had side going from downtown to Fort Carson. We will have to look up this one on our next trip through and get one. Looks good.

That's the place Marvin! There's a Red Top on Nevada Ave. The one mentioned in this post is on Circle, and they have more locations all over town. Bet you miss those burgers!

The place is awesome! Any burger fan will fall in love with Conways! I've been visiting the one on Circle drive for approx 30 years; the burgers/fries have never changed....which is a good thing; why mess with perfection?

I had to look this place up again, after being stationed at Ft Carson for 2 years, Red Top was a must stop for grub after a deployment. My personal favorite was a Double Mushroom & Swiss w/ an order of Chili-cheese fries & a Dr. Pepper. Wish they would feature this place on an episode of 'Man vs Food'. Maybe if enough of us go for it, it'll happen.

I totally agree typojon! I always think of Red Top when I watch that show. BTW I just ate at Red Top today! (I had the veg soup though, not a burger.) Thanks for the comment! Tamera

I just heard where Conway's is closing!? Say it ain't so! I sure hope not as they had the best burgers around, homemade and not at all like the "factory" junk that gets turned out by the big names. If any of you reading this have never been better go soon and taste a REAL burger before they close! It'll be a sad day for all burger lovers if/when this happens.

I heard the sad news today too. We just ate at Conways a few days ago and you'd never know that anything was amiss. Very sad. We are going to try and make it down there tomorrow for one last giant burger.
