Miller time

If you're not from the U.S., you might not be familiar with the phrase "Miller time". It comes from a long-running series of TV commercials for Miller beer in the 1970s, in which the end of the work day was celebrated by having a beer with your buddies. The commercials always featured men doing EXTREMELY MANLY jobs (like putting out four-alarm fires, for instance), while a gravelly voiced gentleman delivered the narration with an extra helping of gravitas; then came the familiar jingle: "If you've got the time, we've got the beer:  Miller beer." I still remember those commercials! I guess you can call it a successful advertising campaign, because eventually "Miller time" became part of our lexicon.

I was hanging out with my friend Jennifer one day last week, shopping downtown, and just after 5:00pm this phalanx of office workers strode purposefully past us, heading for the parking garage on Cascade. Collectively, they definitely put out a "get me the heck out of here" vibe. It was Miller time!

I have heard the phrase many times. And, yes they seem ready to hit a bar and order a beer. Skål!

Yes, the phrase has made its way north of the border as well.
