Great blue heron
Pat and I went by Prospect Lake a couple of days ago, late in the afternoon. The lake was partially frozen but there were plenty of waterfowl about, mostly Canada geese. There was a single great blue heron wading into the frigid water. He definitely noticed me taking his picture, regarding me warily from a distance. I was using quite a long lens, but when I got too close, he took wing and flew out of range. Next time I'll bring an even longer lens. What a beautiful creature.
