This colorful building on Bijou Street midway between Tejon and Cascade now houses a tattoo parlor and a hemp clothing store, but it was originally the home of the Caledonian Hall, where local people of Scottish extraction would gather. Built in 1902 and added to sometime around the 1930s, apparently over the years it housed a number of other fraternal societies, as well as retail establishments and offices, of course. In the 1980s and '90s, my friend Danny's father had architectural offices on the second floor (I'm fairly certain that I am remembering that correctly). I wish I could find a photo of this cool old building from its early days, but I'm not having any luck. I had read somewhere that Victorian houses and buildings were painted with bright colors. Maybe its current color scheme isn't too far off from its original look.
