Pat and I spied this sign while driving through the Hillside neighborhood yesterday. I wasn't sure what the Leon Young Pavilion actually was, so I looked it up. Turns out that it's the brightly painted wall at the bottom end of Shooks Run Park, and I've driven past it only about a zillion times in my life, I just didn't know what it was called! The pavilion is named after our city's first (and only) African American mayor, and right now it's in a pretty sorry state. This neighborhood is fairly low income, and though it's seen some gentrification in recent years, it still has a long way to go. The section of Shooks Run Park in question is looking a little worse for wear. Hillside residents want to restore the pavilion and their share of Shooks Run Park, but have run into some frustrating roadblocks with the city. You can read all about it HERE.

Roadblocks with the city can be a common thing with many cities.
