Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Maynard Dixon

While shooting a corporate event at the Broadmoor today I was gobsmacked to notice this beautiful Maynard Dixon painting hanging in a hallway. The Broadmoor has an impressive art collection (including a couple of gorgeous Maxfield Parrish works, which were relocated to I believe the El Pomar Foundation after 9/11; reproductions now hang at the hotel), but I never realized they had a Dixon! I must have walked past the thing a hundred times over the years and never took notice. When I'm in work mode, I can be pretty focused on the task at hand and oblivious to things like incredible, museum quality paintings in front of my face. Ha!

If you're not familiar with Maynard Dixon, check him out HERE. He has that half elysian, half heroic, verging-on-illustration style so quintessential of the 1930s, and his color palette is just ravishing. Pat and I are in love with his beautiful way of articulating the western landscape, especially the sky and clouds, just like in this painting. It's ravishing, much better seen in person than an on-the-fly cell phone snap. And I know you can't tell the scale of it from this photo but it's a good sized work. Stumbling across it made my day.
