Snow in summer! Independence Pass is 12,095 feet above sea level at its summit, so just imagine how tall the mountains are surrounding it. Do you know what's on the other side of the pass? It's the town of Aspen. Yes that Aspen. It's not exactly my favorite place to hang out, but I have to admit it's an extremely pretty place and its citizens are lucky in more ways than one. By the way, Independence Pass is closed in the winter, so if you want to get to Aspen during the cold months you have to come at it from the other side, via I-70.
