The highest point of Palmer Park puts you above most of the city, and from there you can enjoy a 360° view. This is looking more or less northeast. If you look past the rock formation, in the background you can see nothing but city for miles.

Quite a view.
So Colorado Springs is on a plateau and the big mountains are westerly.
Well, somehow that's not a surprise when I think of it. But I didn't know it was so far above the plains to the east. Nice photo!
Judith, yes, exactly! It's mountains to the west and flat as a pancake to the east.
