File this under Things I Never Thought I'd See in Green Mountain Falls: something called the Keith Haring Fitness Court. I was in GMF on Saturday to photograph a wedding. This little hamlet west of Colorado Springs has a population of under 700 people, and yet a new fitness court featuring the instantly recognizable work of Keith Haring, the famous New York street artist who died of AIDS in 1990 at age 31, has magically appeared on the main drag. Clearly they erected this facility with the blessing of the Haring estate. To be honest, quiet little Green Mountain Falls is practically the last place on earth I'd think would have anything like this, considering Haring was openly gay and some of his work is quite sexual, although most of it simply has a joyously childlike, pop art appeal. This is wonderful! Pat and I are huge fans of Keith Haring, so I can't wait to drive up the pass with him so he can see this in person.
