At 18 North Nevada Avenue stands our finest example of Art Déco architecture, the Municipal Utilities Building. Erected in 1931, it was where you went to pay your water, gas and electric bills, and as far as I know, it always has been. In fact, it was only fairly recently that the building was vacated. Thankfully it was snatched up by the glamorous Mining Exchange Hotel next door and, with its original Déco styling left intact, converted into a beautiful venue for weddings and live music. Rechristened the Gold Ballroom, it just made its debut and it's fantastic! I got to do a shoot in there just a couple of weeks ago (if you're curious to see those pictures, click HERE). What a gorgeous building, inside and out!
The roof line is soooooo Déco. I love it.
