Last Friday, toward the end of our California vacation, Pat and I decided to drive north to L.A. We always enjoy Los Angeles, but we dread the traffic! Our destination was the J. Paul Getty Museum (more on that tomorrow), but since we were in no rush we decided to take the scenic route up the Pacific Coast Highway. The photo above is approaching Newport Beach -- a bad place to live if you're broke, but an excellent place to live if you've got money to burn. It really is a lovely beach town.
There's a McLaren dealership in Newport Beach (starting price around $185,000). Swanky!
This sign made me laugh. Even in Newport Beach, the traffic is intense. If you happen to find yourself on the PCH and needing to escape a tsunami, I think you'd be better off jumping out of your McClaren and running!
Once we got to Los Angeles, we accidentally came upon Randy's Donuts! This iconic building is an L.A. landmark and has been featured in about a zillion movies. Definitely worth the detour for a picture!
I had to take a picture of this as we drove by. It was like we never left Colorado ;^)

You'd definitely be out of luck trying to outrun a tsunami in LA area traffic!
