A few more moments captured on Calafia Beach in San Clemente, California on July 11th. Tomorrow I'll go back to blogging pictures of Colorado.
This last shot has a funny story behind it. I took all of these photos while I was making some nice portraits of my friend Janet and her daughter R, and at one point I glanced out toward the ocean and saw this strange form in the distance. I got really excited because I thought it was a whale. Seeing a whale is on my bucket list, so you can understand why I stopped everything to take about a zillion pictures. But it didn't move; it stayed stubbornly stationary. Very un-whale-like! Then I thought maybe it was a submarine, but it was too weird looking for that. Was it an oceanic Nessie, maybe? This was all very annoying. The mystery wasn't solved until I got home and showed Pat this picture. He took one look at it, said, "It's a rock with a seal on it," and casually strolled away. He was absolutely correct, of course. It's a big rock with a seal (actually two seals) on it. D'oh!
