Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Consumption-sumption, What's Your Function?

Back in its early years, Colorado Springs was THE go-to place to seek a cure for tuberculosis, or consumption as it was called back then. Or at least seek relief from it, anyway. Our dry, sunny climate helped ease the misery of many a TB sufferer. The Sisters of Saint Francis Abbey was once the site of a tuberculosis sanatorium, and they've got a tuberculosis hut to prove it. You still see these around town, in people's backyards in the older part of the city. I always wanted one. I figure it would make a good gardening shed.

This statue of Mary looks rather like it's giving the old side eye.

And now, for your listening pleasure...

My dad had some issues as a kid so he travelled North to a place where the air was said to help. Later in life we also visited that place in Dalarna. Thanks for reminding me!

While I have never ever wanted tuberculosis, I did want the cure of 100 years ago and earlier: go to a place of good clear air, relatively high elevation, rest on a cot outside, take walks every day, eat lots of nourishing food with much of cream and butter, and sleep as long as you want. What's not to like? Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain, along with other novels/memoirs make the cure very attractive. The need for the cure is not. I could be happy in that hut....lots of books, walk to meals.....keep the door open with lots of covers. Ha.
