Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Roller derby

Pat and I went to the roller derby last Saturday night.  I brought a camera and snapped a few shots just for fun.  It was a physical bout! Our girls won, but Tucson definitely gave us a run for our money toward the end.

I spied this stylish girl in the crowd and asked her for a photo. She's a long tall drink of water, this one!  At least 6'-3" (1.905 meters) in flat shoes, she definitely stands out!  As it turns out, she's a derby girl too -- her derby name is Beater Rabbit ;^)

The Art Nouveau swirls that border the roof overhang of the City Auditorium. Such a nice touch, and I imagine it wasn't easy to craft this. The building was erected in 1922-23. I'm so glad it has survived with all its details intact. The City Aud is much beloved by us downtowners!

Roller derby night

Earlier tonight there was a double header at the City Auditorium: our league (the Pikes Peak Derby Dames) versus Tucson (inexplicably called the Silicon Valley Roller Girls -- isn't Silicon Valley in southern California???). I missed most of the first bout because of work. The second bout featured the "B squads" from each league, seen here, and I'm afraid our girls had a bad time of it! The Slamazons were pretty much getting creamed by the KillaBytes when we left halfway through, and I doubt they made up the deficit by the end of the bout. Too bad! But there's always next time, girls! I'm still a loyal fan!

Roller Derby ladies

Just another shot of some of the Pikes Peak Derby Dames going at it Saturday night. By the end of the evening I was convinced that I wanted to be a Derby Dame too. Although I don't know if I'm tough enough! Take a look at these gals, they're pretty scary! Maybe I'll just watch safely from the sidelines ;o)

The Pikes Peak Derby Dames!

Tonight Pat and I, our brothers Chuck and Gene, and our friend Joe all went to the roller derby at the City Aud. Man, it was a blast! I shot a wedding yesterday, and after all those hours of schlepping around heavy cameras and gear I was not motivated to bring a real camera rig tonight. Chuck thought to bring his camera though, and soon surrendered it to me. Alas, the lens on it was extremely inferior so I got some blurry, smeary pictures for sure! (Chuck you need to ditch that lens pronto!) Even so, I'm happy enough with a couple of them to share them here. Tonight's bout (billed as the White Trash Rematch) was between the Double Wide Darlin's and the Barefoot Brawlers. The Double Wides won, and it was super exciting! Here's a quick shot of some of the Double Wides watching the bout from the bench.

Next time I promise to bring some professional gear and get some really hot shots!
