Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Bonus

Here's one I forgot to share from the Hot Rod Rock & Rumble. I just thought it was funny. These folks look like they're having a good time, driving around in an old convertible with their mostly naked mannequin.

There's a Fountain in Fountain

And it's a rather nice one! You can find it on Santa Fe, in front of the railroad caboose in the park that honors past mayors of this little town just south of Colorado Springs.

Fourth of July (Part 1)

July 4th was a quiet holiday for us. Fireworks at Memorial Park were canceled again this year, so we decided to hang out with Pat's brother Gene and just go for a drive, which took us down our favorite dirt road between Fountain and Pueblo. Here's a view looking north with wide open summer skies. I'll share more tomorrow.

The opposite view from yesterday's picture, looking south over Fountain Creek on a lonely stretch between Fountain and Pueblo.

Untitled

Pat and I went for a little drive on Christmas day, taking a country road south from Fountain down to Pueblo. Somewhere along the way I found this old tin can rusting away in a pasture.

Sorry to miss a day of blogging! I got sucked into a huge jigsaw puzzle yesterday, and refused to go to bed until I had finished it -- unfortunately that was at about 2:00am, so I was to pooped to blog! Anyway, here's a building southeast of town that I first showed you five years ago. It's looking a bit weather-beaten now. Time for some new paint.

The Anthills

Pat and I call these odd hillocks south of Fountain the anthills. Actually Pat came up with that name, I can't take credit. I do not think they're man made. There are probably about a half dozen of them, and they can be found on the rural road that leads south out of Fountain to Pueblo.

The Witnesses

Pat and I needed to pick up some necessities on Sunday, which took us to Sam's Club (Pat loves to shop at that place, but I'm not much of a fan). We decided to take the scenic route:  a detour through Fountain and onto some country roads. These curious cows made a photogenic subject when we reluctantly turned the car westward to finish our errand.

The perfect truck

Pat has long been searching for an old pickup to buy, preferably a Ford from about 1968 to 1972-ish, but with no luck. So when we spotted this nearly immaculate 1969 Ford F100 at a tiny used car dealership in Fountain a couple of weeks ago, it was love at first sight. Just look at it! Alas, when we saw the price we weren't quite so enamored, so off we went. Sigh. One of these days we'll find the perfect old truck for the perfect price.

Skywatch Friday

Pat and I came across this near the entrance of Fountain Creek Regional Park a couple of weekends ago: a roof with no building! Isn't that odd? Usually when you see a building in ruins, it's the other way around, a building with no roof. I can't figure out how the heck this happened. But hey, it makes for a good photo.

Skating on thin ice

Pat and I stopped by Fountain Creek Regional Park a couple of weekends ago, where we found these geese hanging out on the ice. It's cute when they walk on it, because their little feet slide and it really does kind of look like they're skating. Or moonwalking. 😏

Very large birds

I don't know about you, but birds the size of Labrador retrievers make me nervous. These turkeys were wandering around in the front yard of a house south of Fountain, on a rural road. That one on the right had murder in his eyes. Cold blooded killer, I tell you.

Little bird, big house.

I spotted this cutie in Fountain Creek Regional Park a couple of weeks ago. That's a mighty big house for such a little bird!

Fountain Creek Regional Park

Wednesday took me to Fountain Creek Regional Park for a photo shoot (actually my friend Alecia, in town for a few days, was the photographer -- I was just tagging along to help her out). I've never been to this park before and was pleasantly surprised. It was so peaceful and pretty! Lots of great trails for hiking or biking, and a big pond for fishing. Here's a picture I grabbed as we were leaving. I'll definitely have to go back sometime when I have time to explore.

Today's photo was taken in Fountain a couple of weeks ago. Fountain is a little exurb south of Colorado Springs, and though it is growing rapidly, it still has a small town feeling to it. The south edge of Fountain still has farms and ranches, only blocks from its tiny downtown. I love that.

September 2016 Theme Day: Library

Can you believe it's already September? I can't! The first of every month is Theme Day for participating City Daily Photo bloggers. This month's theme is library. My regular haunt is the Penrose branch downtown, but I've blogged about that plenty of times, and earlier this year I showed you the Old Colorado City Carnegie Library, so I thought for Theme Day I'd go farther afield. We have many Pikes Peak Library District locations in this city, but other than the ones I've already featured here on the blog, most of them aren't terribly photogenic. I do like the Fountain location though. It's very modern inside and out, and it has nice landscaping (I appreciate that!). Pat and I drove down there after dinner yesterday evening and took a few pictures for you.

Skywatch Friday

I found this white building with the word LOV3 painted on it south of Fountain, out in the boondocks. What a random thing to come across. I LOV3 it!

Blue moon (and Skywatch Friday)

Well, it looks like a blue moon, but it's hiding behind those clouds so you can't actually see it! Pat and I were in Fountain the other night when he noticed how incredible the moon looked, so I set up my tripod and pointed my lens skyward. Unfortunately, by the time I was ready to take a picture, the moon had slipped behind these dramatic clouds and refused to come back out. But I still think it makes for a cool picture! Thanks Pat!

A cheerful abode

While location scouting for a fashion shoot a couple of weeks ago in Fountain, I stumbled across this fabulously cheerful and funky house. I had to stop for a picture. It has a rustic fence all around the front yard, and several old bicycles are used as décor on the fence and front porch. I love it!
