Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

I was in the neighborhood of Pulpit Rock today, and it looked so pretty that I stopped for a quick snap from the parking lot of the BMW dealership. There weren't any people on it, which is unusual. Normally you can spot at least one or two hikers up there.

Merry Christmas 2023!

Merry Christmas to all my readers who celebrate it! I don't have any snowy images to show you today, so here's Pulpit Rock again. I realize that I just posted a snap of it last Thursday. This was taken the next day, Friday, from the vantage point of the parking lot of the Ent Center for the Arts. This time I had a long lens with me, and you can clearly see a number of people on top of this striking rock formation. I count at least nine humans and one adventurous dog.

A Man and the Moon

I had numerous errands to run all over town today, and since the weather was nice I decided to bring a camera along. I thought it'd be good to get a shot of Pulpit Rock from the parking lot of the BMW dealership on North Nevada, (yes, even humble parking lots have amazing views here), and I didn't notice the man standing at the summit until I looked through my lens. Not surprising, though -- there always seems to be someone up there. It's a nice hike and the view from atop Pulpit Rock is awesome.

Rock On

I mentioned Pulpit Rock in yesterday's post, but you could only see it as a blurry blob in the background of the shot, so here it is in all its glory. I know it's hard to tell but there are two people atop it. It's a popular spot for hiking and mountain biking. The climb to the top isn't too arduous although you do need to wear good shoes or boots with lots of tread.

Blue and Gold

A very rainy spring and summer have resulted in a bumper crop of wildflowers this year. That's Pulpit Rock in the background.

I took our dog Frodo for a drive the other day in search of something to point my camera at. We ended up with this lovely snap of Pulpit Rock from North Nevada Avenue. It looked so striking against the electric blue winter sky. It was a cold day but you'd never know it, looking at this.

Today was a put-your-head-down-and-work kind of day, so I didn't get out there with a camera (and besides, it was mostly dreary). To tide us all over, here's a nice snap of Pulpit Rock that I took last week. See you tomorrow!

Pulpit Rock Hiker

Pat and I dropped by the Harley-Davidson dealership today to look at some historic motorcycles (more on that tomorrow or Thursday). There's a great view of Pulpit Rock from over there, so first things first, we stopped to take a picture. Motorcycles are great and all, but I think this dramatic rock formation is better. I mean look at it! By the way, there's a person in this photo. Can you see her? Hint: she's not on the rock.

Very, very green

The UCCS baseball diamond from the top of Pulpit Rock. It's so shockingly, unnaturally green against the scrubby landscape surrounding it.

A few more from our hike to the top of Pulpit Rock a couple of weeks ago. It's pretty up there. 😊
I'm in this one 😊

Pat and I hiked to the top of Pulpit Rock one evening a couple of weeks ago. It was the perfect time of day for a hike:  not too hot, a little breezy, and the light was beautiful. More tomorrow.

Another fun day trip

Pat and I had the idea of hiking up Pulpit Rock on the morning of July 29th, but after eating breakfast at Sheldon's Luncheonette we could see that a rainstorm was looming, so we decided to take a drive to Phantom Canyon Road instead. It's a little past the small town of Penrose, southwest of Colorado Springs, and sends you through a national forest. As you can imagine, it's a beautiful drive. Here's a shot from the country road that eventually leads to the entrance of Phantom Canyon. I'll show you the real deal tomorrow.

The way to the top

Here's Pulpit Rock yesterday afternoon. If you look closely (very closely), you can see a couple of people near the top, sitting on the precipice and dangling their feet over the edge -- not that I recommend doing that! I've never been up there because I didn't know how to get to the trail, but now I think I may have figured it out, so hopefully the next time I post a picture of Pulpit Rock, it'll be from up there and not down here!
