Seen at the garden tour a few days ago. This truck made all the same stops along the tour as we did so I spotted it multiple times throughout the day. I was sorely tempted to post this photo on Independence Day, but I played nice. 😉

You're looking at an image of Pikes Peak on New Year's Eve, when the famed AdAmAn Club puts on an incredible fireworks display from the summit right at midnight. It's an awesome tradition that started in 1922, and yes the club members hike to the top of the peak for this event -- they don't do it the easy way. Imagine hiking to the summit of a 14,000+ foot tall mountain in the dead of winter and one of the shortest days of the year! I personally have never made it to the top of Pikes Peak on foot, although I have summited a (small) handful of other fourteeners. Some of them are "easier" than others. I put that in quotes for a reason. Ha! Hiking up a giant mountain is not exactly easy!

A Little Late to the Party
Seen a few days ago on Uintah heading west under the interstate. I must have driven this route a hundred times since the first of the year. Either I'm a completely oblivious driver (I hope not!) or someone scrawled this message only recently. Better late than never, I suppose.

Happy V-Day!
Today was Valentine's Day, and while running errands I spied this couple perusing the flower selection at Safeway. They really put some thought into coordinating their outfits. Cute!

Hot Wheels
I took my mom to lunch at the Patty Jewett clubhouse on New Years day, and our table afforded me a great view of the golf course and the entry road. This elegant Ford Coupe was hard to miss on its approach! I pointed it out to my mom, and as we left I decided to try and find it in the parking lot and grab a shot of it. By then most of the golfers had gone home so it was easy to spot. After I got home I showed the picture to Pat, and we agreed that it looks a lot like the famous "ZZ Top car" (a.k.a. the Eliminator), minus the snazzy paint job. It appears to be a 1935 five window Ford Coupe, and it sure is gorgeous. Someone has put a ton of money and love into this automobile.

January 2026 Theme Day: Photo of the Year
Happy New Year 2026! On the first day of every month, participating City Daily Photo bloggers showcase a common theme, and on January 1st that theme always photo of the year from the previous 12 months. Here's my pick, a great blue heron that I shared with you on May 27th. I originally blogged this shot in color, but I rather prefer it in black and white. Which version do you like more?

Merry Christmas 2025!

We made it! I saved the most festive house for today's post. This one's located on La Salle in sort of the Venetian Village area, bordering on Patty Jewett. Look at all the fun lights! This one is definitely my favorite!

Christmas Week 2025 (Part 3)
Here's a festive McMansion in the Broadmoor. This is a seriously wealthy neighborhood so the homeowners probably had someone come and do this work for them. It looks nice, though.

Christmas Week 2025 (Part 2)
Another big home on Wood Avenue, a couple of blocks south of the one in yesterday's post. It practically looks like a movie set. So pretty.

Christmas Week 2025 (Part 1)
I thought I'd share a handful of festively decorated houses with you in the days leading up to Christmas this week. Here's a big ol' mansion on Wood Avenue.

Sunday Style!
I know I've been sharing chic Londoners with you these last few Sundays, but we interrupt this programming to bring you my 89 year-old mom, Aurora, who took me to lunch on Friday dressed quite festively in Christmas green, including her jewelry. My mom always looks great!

Happy Thanksgiving 2025!
It's time again for my favorite holiday! What's yours? I took this photo today around 2:30 PM. It was hazy over the mountain but still the view was beautiful. To my US readers, I hope today has been lovely, the food was delicious, the company was delightful, and your football team won!

Red, White and Blue
Happy Memorial Day to my US readers! This unintentionally patriotic little tableau presented itself to me downtown a couple of weeks ago. I was really just trying to get a picture of the red car; it was only after I got this photo up on my computer screen that I noticed the white and blue ones.

To Peep or Not to Peep
That is the question! Where do you stand on Peeps? I know they're popular, but I'm not a fan. Then again I'm not a fan of most candy. How about you?

Garden of the Tourists
I decided it'd be nice to go for a little hike in the Garden of the Gods today with Frodo. Bad idea! It's the day after Christmas, there are plenty of out of towners here visiting family for the holidays, and where did they all convene today? You guessed it. To compound matters, there is a lot of road work going on inside the Garden of the Gods, which basically meant that I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic almost as soon as I entered the park. Not so relaxing and nature-y. We did eventually battle our way to the High Point, where there was exactly one parking spot coming available just as we pulled up. In the end, though, we had a nice little hike and even chatted with a few people along the way (some of them from as far away as Colombia!), since Frodo is The Friendliest and Cutest Dog on Earth. All's well that ends well!

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!
Hope you're having a great day today! Here's a house near my parents' neighborhood that really gets into the Christmas spirit. I took a picture of it during daytime (below), but decided to return with Pat later that night so we could see it in all its glory. Too fun. Have a great Christmas and start to Hanukkah!

A Minor Hiccup
My Thanksgiving weekend was marred by an hours-long visit to the ER as I was suffering from severe abdominal pain. After much poking, prodding, ultra-sounding and extracting of blood (ugh), it was determined that my gallbladder is in full revolt and will probably need to be removed sometime in the near future. Sigh. I also learned that this is a very common problem and solution, and to my surprise a large number of my friends commiserated with my situation on Facebook, telling me that they've had their gallbladder removed and it wasn't a big deal. Who knew so many of my friends were walking around with an organ missing? Anyway, I see a surgeon next week and honestly I'm so miserable and already so annoyed with the very bland diet I'm forced to eat now (to no avail, the pain persists, only a little less acute) I can't wait to say buh-bye to my gallbladder.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my readers who celebrate it! This was taken almost exactly a year ago, on November 26, 2023. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I'm looking forward to watching the Macy's Parade and the dog show, cooking up a big meal, and just relaxing. Although we have plenty to worry about in the coming year or four, we also have plenty to be thankful for. So look around you at the people and pets you love, give them all a big hug, and savor the day! Thanks for reading my blog!

We drove all the way across the state on July 4th, to a little hamlet named Creede, and look what we found just outside the town limits. Pretty cool! There are countless similar old mines all over the state, but this one is in really good condition. I took a few nice pictures on this little road trip and will share more over the next couple of days.

Happy Fourth!
It's been a few weeks since I featured American's Mountain. So since it's America's birthday, I thought it would be entirely appropriate to show her off today. Here she is! This was taken on October 25, 2019. Happy Independence Day to my American readers! Have fun, stay away from fireworks, don't eat too many hot dogs, and don't forget the sunblock!
