Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Skirmish

I was trying to get a shot of a hummingbird up by Helen Hunt Falls this afternoon and serendipitously managed to capture two of them mid-skirmish. I wasn't even sure what it was that I had just taken a picture of, I just saw a flash of feathers and instinctively pushed the shutter button. I guess hummingbirds are quite a territorial lot. Below is the image I was actually attempting to get, taken moment or two after the dramatic conflict.

A quick snap at the entrance of Cheyenne Canon last Friday. The road into the canyon was closed for some reason, so this is the best I could get.

Cheyenne Canon on August 31st, still clinging to summer. Today I went up the pass to go leaf peeping with a friend, and the aspens are bright gold. Beautiful! Some have already shed their leaves, but many are still in full color. I took a few pictures and will share them with you soon.

August 31st took me to Cheyenne Canon for some senior portraits. I snapped this between poses. A perfect Colorado day. I love my job.

Wet and Wild

Cheyenne Creek is practically overflowing its banks at the moment, what with the spring runoff and all. I wish you could hear this picture. I love the sound of running water, don't you?

I'm back! Apologies for the several days of absence, dear readers. We were out of the country for over a week (in England), and the blog was on autopilot while I was gone. My prescheduled posts ended on the day we got back, May 26th, but then I had to contend with a dire case of jet lag, not to mention a small business and clients that needed my attention. So I cut myself a little slack and necessarily put the blog on the back burner for a few days.

No, this was not taken in England, in case you were curious! It's a pretty moment captured in Cheyenne Cañon a couple of days ago. I have many, many vacation pics to go through and hopefully I'll be able to share a lot of them with you in a few days.

I'm a little brain tired tonight, so I'm plumbing the archives for material. Here's a splashy moment from Sepetmber of 2019, and though I'm not sure where I took this I'll hazard a guess and say that it was in Cheyenne Canon.

I actually grabbed a few snaps of a new downtown mural for you this morning, but since my brain is pretty exhausted right now, I'll deal with them tomorrow. To the archives we go. Here's a long exposure of Cheyenne Creek from May 25th of last year.

Here's some more pretty Colorado stuff, taken June 6, 2021, in Cheyenne Canon.

I have been insanely busy! Not just with work stuff, but with personal responsibilities as well. That's why this week, instead of doing all the Calhan images in one or two posts, I spread them out over a few days. I still don't have any interesting new material for you so here's a nice "throwaway" shot that I took in Cheyenne Canon on October 27th.

I was in Cheyenne Canon today for a photo shoot, and I didn't really have time to take pictures for the blog but here's a nice test shot for ya. 😊

Too Hot

Today was the first really hot day of the year. It reached about 91° F (33° C). I know that for many people, 91° is a perfectly comfortable temperature, but not for me! I'm really not a hot weather kind of person. Tomorrow is supposed to be similar, and then thank goodness it's going to cool down a bit. Until then, let's enjoy this nice, chilly moment that I captured in Cheyenne Cañon on April 6th.

And now, for your listening pleasure...

Spring Runoff in Bear Creek, Two Versions

A very quick stop at the Starsmore Center this afternoon resulted in these two images. The top one was a long exposure of a quarter of a second at F:22 (ISO 100), and the bottom one was 1/800 of a second, F:6.3 (ISO 1000). My tripod was stashed at my studio miles away, and I was too lazy to fetch the old rickety backup tripod from the trunk of my car, so I rested my camera on the bridge railing to keep it steady for the long exposure shot. Thankfully there was just SO MUCH WATER and it was rushing so violently that a quarter of a second was plenty long to give the image that silky look. Which shot do you like better?

I didn't have any new work to show you today, so here's Cheyenne Cañon last month. I'm sick and spent the entire day zonked out on drugs. It felt good to sleep so much, but obviously no one likes being sick. And besides, today was utterly dreary and rainy and wouldn't have been any good for picture taking anyway. Tomorrow I will hopefully be feeling a little better and maybe the weather will cooperate, too. If not, I'm sure I've got plenty of old stuff in the archives to share.

A last look at Cheyenne Canon in the snow last week. The light through the snow dusted trees was so pretty in that moment.

A view from one of the bridges over Cheyenne Creek, looking west. So pretty in the snow.

Who Goes There?

Footprints in snow are hard to photograph, that's a fact! These were in Cheyenne Canon last Thursday, the morning after a fast moving storm dumped about 3" of snow on us in my neck of the woods (and many more inches in the northerly parts of the city). It was pretty while it lasted.

Just more prettiness from the snowstorm we had last week. That was a blast of cold for sure, but the last couple of days have been almost hot -- windows open and short sleeves weather. I hear it's going to cool down again. I have no problem with that. It is what it is.

I love how the sunlight is kissing the perfectly formed, snow covered tree in this shot. I did get a few more lovely, wintry pictures, which I'll share tomorrow and/or the next day.

April Snow

We got an intense snowstorm last Wednesday night, which left us with about 3" of fluffy stuff in my neighborhood and quite a bit more farther north. I enjoyed it while it lasted. Within 24 hours it was gone, because the very next day the temperatures doubled and the sun melted away all the prettiness. Pat and I went to Cheyenne Canon to get a few pictures before the snow disappeared. More tomorrow.
