Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Rock Ledge Ranch (Part 9)

The final post in my series on Rock Ledge Ranch! Yes there's a blacksmith shop, with a real blacksmith who gives live demonstrations during the summer when the ranch is in full swing.

Rock Ledge Ranch (Part 8)

Another beautiful old home on the grounds of Rock Ledge Ranch. As you can see, it's beautifully restored and maintained.

Rock Ledge Ranch (Part 7)

I never realized that Rock Ledge Ranch had so many period appropriate amenities!

Rock Ledge Ranch (Part 6)

There's a perfectly restored old windmill in the middle of the paddock at Rock Ledge Ranch. Does it remind you of the ones from 17 Mile House Farm that I showed you a few months ago?

Rock Ledge Ranch (Part 5)

Here's the barn at Rock Ledge. It looks to be about the same vintage as my grandpa's barn, which is to say late 1800s to early 1900s, and would be in keeping with the rest of the ranch. Since there are resident animals here (cows, sheep, chickens and horses), it's necessary to have a barn that's more than just for show.

Rock Ledge Ranch (Part 4)

I'm not sure if this building on the ranch grounds is old or modern. It's certainly styled like a stable but I think it holds administrative offices and staff facilities.

Rock Ledge Ranch (Part 3)

Rock Ledge Ranch has an extremely charming little duck pond. I was surprised to find only three ducks upon it when I visited last week, but then again it's wintertime. Maybe the usual feathered crowd is hanging out in warmer climes at the moment.

Rock Ledge Ranch (Part 2)

More images of the Chambers House -- I think. I truly cannot find confirmation of which building this is on the ranch. Their site has a lot of great information and some lovely photos, but it doesn't have a map of the ranch as far as I could tell, and nothing indicating what the different houses and buildings are called. At any rate, I've always admired this beautiful old home. The photo above shows the front of the house; below is the back of it, below that is a peek through the back door revealing a table set for tea, and finally the bottom photo shows you a detail of the south side of the building.

I've never done anything more than wander the grounds of this ranch in the off season, so I apologize for being so woefully uninformed! Of course this beautiful old structure is no longer a home, it's now a museum, and obviously I'm going to have to take the tour come summer so I can get a better understanding of Rock Ledge Ranch and its history -- I'm so intrigued! Meanwhile, I'll share more of my Rock Ledge images tomorrow.

Rock Ledge Ranch (Part 1)

Last Monday I explored Rock Ledge Ranch with Frodo, our little dog. This is a living history farm and museum situated at the southeast corner of the Garden of the Gods park. At this time of year you can bet Rock Ledge Ranch will be nearly deserted, so it's a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. I took several pictures, which I'll share throughout the week. Here's the first building you come upon. I believe it's called the Chambers House but I'm not certain. I'll try to find a little more info on it for tomorrow's blog post.

Sorry to bore you with another standard issue picture of the mountain, but I have a series on Rock Ledge Ranch in the works and I don't want to start on it until Monday. So until then, filler. Enjoy this pretty picture!
