Happy to Wait

Now that most people have been vaccinated and restrictions have been lifted, Sunday brunch is back on, baby! Pat and I have been enjoying dining at our favorite haunts on Sundays again, and it looks like everyone else has been too. Here's a shot of the line at Bon Ton's recently. I'm more than happy to wait in line, and very psyched to finally be able to enjoy a lazy summer brunch again!

I got my second Covid shot today and am feeling a little under the weather, but I planned for this possibility and have a number of pictures ready to go for the entire week, starting with this nice shot of some giant rock formation or other in the Garden of the Gods. I have no idea what this one's called, but I think it's blogworthy.

Have you had your vaccine(s) yet? The side effects for me have included extreme fatigue, generally feeling lousy and wimpy, and headache. Little spells of feverishness and chills have been coming and going. I spent almost the entire day in bed (hence the late hour of this post, which I am sneakily backdating because it's after midnight and technically now the 20th, not the 19th), and no doubt tomorrow will be more of the same, but I'm sure I'll feel fine in a day or two. Anything's better than being on a respirator. I'm excited to have some level of immunity and very much looking forward to getting back to normal!

February 2021 Theme Day: Smile!

It's hard to tell if someone's smiling when they're wearing a mask! You end up looking like the picture below (I swear they're smiling!). The pandemic has changed our lives in so many ways both big and small, and not being able to see people smiling was one of the first things I noticed when we all started to wear masks. It helps to keep a sense of humor about these things or you'll go a little bonkers! My clients Rachel and Alex indulged me today in posing for these while I was at their house photographing their newborn baby. Thanks, guys! "Parklets" in Downtown Colorado Springs

In an effort to bring indoor dining outside during the cold months, "parklets" have been built along one block of Tejon Street. (And if you watch THIS news story about it, you'll get to see my friend John being interviewed!) As is probably going on in your city too, local restaurants have been struggling mightily with waxing and waning Covid restrictions, and many have gone under, which is heartbreaking. I have many friends who have been affected by this. In Colorado we just re-opened our restaurants for indoor dining again a few days ago, but who knows how long that will last? Thankfully you can enjoy an outdoor meal downtown in heated comfort for the foreseeable future.

Goodbye and Good Riddance to 2020!

Here's a dramatic moment captured in our backyard ten days ago. As the sun sets on 2020, all I have to say is good riddance to this horrible year! Almost every Christmas card we received this year had some kind of hand scribbled sentiment wishing for a better 2021. Things can only get better, right? So let's put 2020 in our rearview mirror and start of the new year with a positive attitude and lots and lots and LOTS of hope! Happy New Year's Eve and by all means let's celebrate!

Testing, Testing, 1-2-3... 4-5-6

A client recently exposed me to Covid-19, so I was forced to quarantine and get a test. I was shocked at how many people were queued at the drive-through Coronavirus testing site near my house! I tried and failed to get a picture showing the long line. It snaked through this parking lot, the parking lot across the street from it, and into the street itself. Pretty crazy! Oh and for the curious, my test came back negative, which was a big relief. I'm diligent about wearing a mask and staying a safe distance away. As for my client, he inadvertently infected a few members of his family but everyone seems to be fine now.

How Is Everyone Doing Out There?

As for me, I've been spending my time reading, starting seeds for my veggie garden, and sewing, lots of sewing! And I'm excited to start volunteering for Silver Key in a couple of days. Might as well make myself useful! How are you doing? Are you able to work from home, or are you at loose ends now, like me? I'm job hunting, since my photography business has ground to a standstill. I have a good attitude about that, though -- I'm sure I'll be doing fine again soon, and so will you. We're all in this together.

April 2020 Theme Day: School!

April is here! The first of every month is Theme Day for participating City Daily Photo bloggers, and this month's theme is school. Usually the themes are decided upon months in advance -- little did we know that the Coronavirus pandemic would make things so different for anyone who's in school (or teaching it) at the moment.

This is Palmer, the oldest high school in the city. I took this on Tuesday, March 24th, without even realizing that Theme Day was coming up and this was the perfect subject! All I can say is that it sure is weird to drive past Palmer during the school year and not have to dodge students.
