Welcome to Colorado Springs Daily Photo!

Hi, I'm Tamera, a professional wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs. But this blog isn't about my professional work; no, it's a daily love note to my beautiful city, where I've lived for most of my life. I love it here and I hope you enjoy seeing Colorado Springs through my eyes and lens!

Skywatch Friday

I haven't done a Skywatch Friday post in ages! This picture was taken a few days ago, before the dramatic "bomb cyclone" blizzard that hit us on Wednesday. I was sitting at an intersection, waiting for the traffic signal to turn green, and saw that these two aircraft had randomly made a giant X high in the sky above me. I just happened to have a camera on the car seat next to me (surprise!), so I grabbed a picture.

Skywatch Friday

As Pat and I departed Westcliffe (see yesterday's post), the rain started to come down and the backlit clouds became even more stark and dramatic than they had been earlier in the day. I took a few pictures as we passed through squall after squall. That's the Sangre de Cristo mountain range you're looking at. Isn't it spectacular?

I'm barely sneaking this post in on Friday; we're almost to Saturday! Here's a beautiful sunset shot from Calafia Beach in San Clemente, California. More from that lovely beach tomorrow.

I haven't done a Skywatch Friday post in a long time! Here's the pedestrian stairwell that comes down from Colorado Avenue to the arts district below. For more Skywatch Friday pictures from bloggers all over, click HERE. Have a great weekend!

Skywatch Friday

Pat and I came across this near the entrance of Fountain Creek Regional Park a couple of weekends ago: a roof with no building! Isn't that odd? Usually when you see a building in ruins, it's the other way around, a building with no roof. I can't figure out how the heck this happened. But hey, it makes for a good photo.

Keeping it simple today with an austere image of the 1st Bank building (or if you've lived here as long as I have, the Holly Sugar building) against a winter blue sky. For more Skywatch Friday images from bloggers all over, click HERE. Have a great weekend!

The Garden of the Gods always makes for a good Skywatch Friday post! November 16th was a good day to be there with a camera.

Today is the first of the month, which means it's Theme Day for City Daily Photo bloggers. The theme is gift, but since I don't have a photo for the theme, I guess I'll just participate in Skywatch Friday instead. I took this picture a few days ago in the Garden of the Gods. Pat and I were just cruising through, and I asked him to stop the car when I saw these climbers high up on one of the rocks.

Some interesting branding on the roof of Bambino's Urban Pizzeria, a favorite restaurant of ours located on Tejon and Bijou. "The Bambino" was one of Babe Ruth's nicknames. In 1932, Ruth famously came to the plate and pointed to the bleachers beyond center field, indicating that he intended to send a home run there, then proceeded to send the ball sailing an estimated 500 feet in the direction where he had pointed. Or so the legend goes, at least. "Bambino" is also the Italian word for child. I guess this mural ties together the Babe Ruth story and the Italian translation. I'm not 100% in love with it (on closer inspection, the child's face is a little creepy -- or maybe I'm just misunderstanding it all completely and it's not even a child at all), but I do think it's cheerful in a way and it adds character to the building.

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! For more Skywatch Friday pictures from bloggers all over the world, click HERE. Have a great weekend and don't forget that tomorrow is Small Business Saturday!

Sacred Heart Church on 21st and Colorado is getting a facelift. It looks like they've completed painting her. I wonder what's next on the agenda.

We're starting to see hints of snow on the Peak now. It's so pretty. It will add up and add up over the next few months. I love Pikes Peak when it's completely snowcapped.

Skywatch Friday

Another photo that's been lurking on my hard drive for a few months. I'm awfully busy for October! No time to go out and find new images (and nothing's inspiring me these last few days, anyway), so I've had to dig through the archives.

This was taken in Denver in July, and it shows a rare thing indeed: a downtown Denver street with nary a car in sight! Unbelievable! It's a good thing I captured this impossible moment for posterity 😉

Last Friday I showed you a picture of Mueller State Park taken on Monday, October 7th. On Saturday I went back to the park to do some portraits, and it was even more spectacular! I'll post more pretty pictures tomorrow.

Skywatch Friday

I'm barely getting this post in before the official end of Friday! (At least in Mountain Standard Time, anyway.) Better late than never! Here's a beautiful shot I took in Mueller State Park on Monday. That mountain in the background is the west side of Pikes Peak. I'll be going back there tomorrow (or today, if you're reading this after midnight) for some portraits, and hopefully I'll have some time to take a few personal photos too.

One last shot from lovely Beaver Creek, Colorado (see the previous few posts for more). The elevation at this particular spot was about 9,500 feet above sea level. So pretty! In a about a month's time they will be even more spectacular. There's nothing like aspens in the fall.

The Colorado State Capitol building, seen from the 7th floor of the Denver Public Library. That's real gold on the dome, mined from Cripple Creek, about 45 minutes west of Colorado Springs.

An out-the-car-window snap in the Santa Fe Arts District of Denver. It's been quite a while since I've explored this neighborhood and it really seems to have grown legs in the last few years. Time to do more than just drive through it! The next time I have a free afternoon in Denver, I'm going to spend some time there.
