A photo taken from the bridge in yesterday's post, looking down at the creek in Shooks Run Park. Can you see my reflection? I didn't have a camera with me, so I used my cell phone.

Peaceful
A favorite bridge. It's quite secluded and picturesque. You can find it at the west edge of Shooks Run Park, tucked into the trees and crossing a small creek.

A Mitzvah
I took Frodo for a walk in Shooks Run Park on Sunday afternoon, where we came across a couple of older gentleman doing a mitzvah -- a good deed. They were planting a sapling tree. Shooks Run Park is full of gorgeous, big cottonwoods, but some have become diseased over the years and either toppled or been cut down. These two volunteers were on a mission to, among other things, replace the lost trees with saplings. You can learn more about the Shooks Run Agroforestry Project in the short video below.

Sunday Style!
My friend Ann, who can really carry off a statement look with great panache! She's tall and lanky, so this large print doesn't swallow her up. Doesn't she look great?

Spring Runoff in Bear Creek, Two Versions
A very quick stop at the Starsmore Center this afternoon resulted in these two images. The top one was a long exposure of a quarter of a second at F:22 (ISO 100), and the bottom one was 1/800 of a second, F:6.3 (ISO 1000). My tripod was stashed at my studio miles away, and I was too lazy to fetch the old rickety backup tripod from the trunk of my car, so I rested my camera on the bridge railing to keep it steady for the long exposure shot. Thankfully there was just SO MUCH WATER and it was rushing so violently that a quarter of a second was plenty long to give the image that silky look. Which shot do you like better?

The Royal Color
I do not have any irises in my gardens, but my friend JB does and they are currently in full bloom. How pretty!

Lady's Mantle
Achemilla (a.k.a. lady's mantle) looks especially lovely with droplets of rain on it. I came across this micro vignette at Sunset Greenhouse over the weekend. I was there with friends and didn't buy anything this time around, but will be revisiting there soon to pick up a few plants.

Sunday Style!
I actually took this picture about a year and a half ago, but didn't post it at the time for some reason (probably because it was taken in a very unphotogenic supermarket). I remember why I took it, though -- I liked her cool boots and cute purse.

Colors of Spring
I've mentioned many times that my favorite season is autumn, but really I just like having seasons, period. I grew up mostly in the Philippines, which certainly has its charms but it doesn't exactly have seasons, so to speak. Well, there's just regular season and then there's typhoon season, that's about it. So if you like weather to be exactly the same pretty much every single day, I recommend the Philippines as long as you don't mind the occasional violent typhoon.
Springtime at 6,000 feet above sea level is lovely, even though fall gets all the credit for having lots of color. But spring is nothing to snort at. Think of all the flowers, for one thing. And even non-flowering plants like this humble scrub oak have plenty of delicate spring color, if you look closely enough.

Olden Days of Yore, or Some Such
Despite the inclement weather, I actually found myself in Red Rock Canyon this afternoon with a client, hiking around, or location scouting to be more precise, with umbrellas in hand. I did snap off a couple of shots but had no time to deal with them tonight, so here's a nugget from Ye Olde Archyves: Glen Eyrie Castle on December 7, 2008, when this blog was but a baby.

I didn't have any new work to show you today, so here's Cheyenne Cañon last month. I'm sick and spent the entire day zonked out on drugs. It felt good to sleep so much, but obviously no one likes being sick. And besides, today was utterly dreary and rainy and wouldn't have been any good for picture taking anyway. Tomorrow I will hopefully be feeling a little better and maybe the weather will cooperate, too. If not, I'm sure I've got plenty of old stuff in the archives to share.

Running Rampant
I really have no idea what is going on in this picture. Last Thursday I had a personal errand on Weber Street, and afterward I came across a large number of young people (I assume CC students) wearing kooky costumes and running around in groups, seemingly at random. It was very odd. I managed to capture these two groups running toward each other from opposite sides of Uintah Street. It definitely looked like everyone was having a blast!

Fluidity
We've had so much rain lately (and snow in the mountains), that there have been some flash flood situations in the local creeks and streams. Some homeless folks who camp near the water have had to be rescued. To compound things, it's May, which means that the spring runoff from the mountains is sending tons of water down to the lower elevations. These pictures were taken in Manitou Springs over the weekend. As you can see, the creek is swollen to the max.

Elusive
Pikes Peak three days ago. We have certainly been getting some rain lately, and the mountain is looking good -- that is, when you can actually see it. I just happened to get lucky for this shot. Our famous view has mostly been obscured by clouds for the last several days.

Sunday Style!
I noticed this young woman at the car show a couple of weekends ago. She was a real standout among the crowd. Bold choice of outfit - those boots and slip dress are right out of the 1990s.

Baile Folklórico
A couple of beautiful traditional Mexican dancers performed at the fiesta that I've been blogging about this week. I love the dresses!

Fiesta and Car Show in Memorial Park (Part 5)
Just a few last cars to share! These were all so cool. I especially like the vintage pedal car, even though I'm not crazy about the color. I think it was from the 1940s.

Fiesta and Car Show in Memorial Park (Part 4)
I have a few more car pictures to share with you today and tomorrow from the fiesta and car show in Memorial Park a couple of weekends ago. My favorite from this bunch is definitely the Marilyn Monroe themed ride. It's awesome!

Fiesta and Car Show in Memorial Park (Part 3)
I'm more of a Ford person than a Chevy person, but I have to say I love this red Impala. Look at that gorgeous interior! I prefer vintage cars that are perfectly restored, or "stock," over chopped, lowered and very customized vehicles. That said, of course the latter is pretty cool, too, and I think some even approach the level of being art. Here are a few more awesome classics from the fiesta and car show at Memorial Park a couple of weekends ago.

Fiesta and Car Show in Memorial Park (Part 1)
Last week was Cinco de Mayo, and in the run up to that there was a fiesta and car show on April 29th at Memorial Park. Since this was a celebration of Mexican culture, I expected to see some amazing low riders, and I wasn't disappointed! You should have seen all the cool cars! There were some killer tricked out motorcycles too, and even bicycles. Here's a sampling. I'll post more tomorrow.
